Looking on ebay for bits and pieces for the max, I stumbled upon these pretty looking projecta headlights.

Very tempting to buy these.

Heard somewhere that fitting HID's to vehicles not having HID as standard is illegal and we can be fined if the copper feels like issuing a ticket to you, but I feel that would be in very extreme circumstances, like pissing him off.

the thing is, you don't have to use HID's in them. i just have my standard halogen bulbs in them... i will be upgrading to HIDs soon though, and because they projector lights the cops won't even know, because a lot of projector lights come with HIDS standard.

i live in victoria aka COP-LAND and i have had no troubles!

but i did do a shield mod so i wasnt shining people because these lights are for LHD... but you don't have to bother with that if you don't want to...

i have HID's *looks at avatar* no cop has ever hassled me... ever i think they assume they came with them and anyway even of they do, just point them to the page in the manual that says that they are an option.... i mean they arent going to pick up that the aus spec didnt get them... they will probably be like "righto then mate ill just let you off with a minor arse raping" and defect everything else!

nah, thats the cheapest you will get. aftermarket bits for the J31 are quite expensive.

if you look at the link you posted on ebay, the inside of the lights is chrome. look at mine, the inside of my lights is black, to suit my black car.

i can't remember how much exactly i paid... maybe around 450-500 AUD? and i got them off ebay too.

any large space between base of light and bumper?

yeah i guess... its about 7mm? you don't notice it at all on my black car... i dont think you'd really notice on another colour either, its not a huge gap...

are early and late series headlights (and taillights) interchangable?

i don't believe they are. i think they changed shape very slightly.

i think the series 2 headlights are ugly anyway... they weren't a very impressive projector design...

tail light looks the same shape redline! but i bet its cheaper to get aftermarket there!

too bad, there was a set of genuine oem series 2 LED taillights on ebay for like $80 the other day...
