Post Dyno run KillerVQ30DE
Nissan Cefiro 1994 VQ30DE Auto
(MEVI installed but disabled)
K&N Pod filter
Standard exhust

Was gutted they tested in 2nd gear, I have mevi but the control solenoid wasn't working during the run.

Can some one please explain the air/fuel ratio, I think my car is running rich as I can smell gas from the exhaust is that what the lower graph is showing?

I also notice I have pretty good torque figures, I'm sure with a better geared run and MEVI working I would get closer to 120-125kw

man i just about fell out of my chair dude !!! a dyno with chart, and video ! fantastico !! we are going to need a dyno section here at this rate, with me you and phats. i am told time and time again, not to put faith in these a/f ratio findings, i also smelt lots of fumes and gas from my exhaust, do you have any cels (service engine lights)? i replaced a nasty old o2 sensor and plugged in a IAT sensor and that seems to help.

while huge numbers are nice, i thinks about working with what you have, and seeing how in your case fixing your mevi, or adding mods improve your numbers. bravo for posting this thread up, really enjoyed it.

back home everyone dynos or cars in 4th gear on manuals, mine was done in 3rd but not a biggy really. your a/f ratio looks better than mine.
dave b says "Ideally, you want to be in the upper 12s/lower 13s as you approach redline."

my dyno chart
http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/8900/d ... 2kw6lr.jpg

again, well done, we should talk to the big dogs here about rounding up these dyno threads and putting them together, i just saw jordan has one and another 6th gen one plus me you and phat 6

Cheers ceasar it was pretty cool to hear it let rip.. normally only get the in car sounds :) People were seriously surprised ay ;) best quote "Whooaa what you got in that thing" got props from a Z guy as well :)

Ahh no CEL's.. and my car doesn't seem to have a Intaketemp sensor there was nothing on my factory airbox before I went pod. I suspect old o2's But the a/f ratio sounds okay by what Dave B said.

4th would seem ideal for Manual and 3rd for Autos.. closet to 1:1 ratio

5-speed
1st 3.285
2nd 1.850
3rd 1.206
4th 0.954
5th 0.759
final 3.823

Automatic
1st 2.785
2nd 1.545
3rd 1.000
4th 0.694
final 3.789

I'm there Caesar. We're going camping around Raglan then Taupo over New Years - was going to be up north but after I found about the meet on January 2...well, you know :D .

109kW WITHOUT MEVI is awesome Killer! When I went to Torque Perfomance in August I was talking to a guy who had a 268kW @ Wheels imported Lancer (WOW! ) but his last car was a 1999 VT Commodore XU6 and he said that it only produced 112kW and that's with the belt driven supercharger...haha.

Did you go there on Saturday last Killer for the 'first of the month thing'?

Yeah I went to Dyno day $60 with mixture check... pretty good deal

There was an evo2 that smacked down a 268.. and I thought the WRX Sti at 227 was going good

I went at the last minute but next time would be good to get some more people up there... about 16 cars went on.. max 20 per day

Wicked! Just checked my codes and I'm getting the 0304 Knock Sensor code - I wonder how much that contributes to my dyno power loss .. although it may have happened post dyno not sure. I'll have to pull out my knock and if neccessary get one under warrenty

ok lets take a look:

first off i hope you had plenty of bp ultimate 98 octane/synergy8000 in the max , with enough time for the ecu to notice the higher octane. if not then you are losing HP there. some say 1o hp

your dyno says 109 kw or 146 hp

so if you had a bad knock sensor during the pull I would guess you lost 10-15 hp ? need to research on that. maybe a quick post at the org would give you a quick answer.

Just saying the ks set you back 15 hp which im not sure how much they hurt, with a new ks maybe you would see something more like :

161 hp or 120 kw

and if you are using cheap gas then this figure should be higher, so again im just guessing i dont know for certain .

Grr I only had 95 Octane in there too... I went on the real spare of the moment

So my down fall was:

1. Cheap 95 Octane gas
2. MEVI not activating
3. Possible dying KS ( I reset codes, went for drive, KS code not back yet)
4. Dynoing in 2nd gear

I'm okay with the above figures as I believe there quite abit down.. should be closer to yours & jordans figure

well 95 should be leaps and bounds better than 91 which in the states 91 is like 87 octane.

98 - 93 (nz-us)
95 - 90 (nz-us)
91 - 86 (nz-us)

not sure how accurate that is but its probably close, the us spec maxima calls for premium unleaded fuel only for maximum performance, which is 93/nz98. if you do plan on racing in taupo, swap over to 98 about a week ahead and keep it running in the car. if you cruise down to watch 95 :D
in the long run you will get better gas mileage.

Don't know if you watch the whole video.. the best pull is at about 1minute 20 seconds... but check out how much the engine moves... mounts you reckon?

Good work man! That's a good result for that. When I did mine my KS was f*cked, mevi wasnt working and revolution sensor was unplugged.

Didn't get much either.

KS makes you lose HEAPS of power dude. Probably more than 10 - 15kw's.

Well PHAT6 has a NZ Maxima auto SMX edition and he got 104kw's (I THINK) on the same dyno as me

Yep - 104.4kW or 140bhp @ Wheels Matt.

I have to have my car serviced for its 180k check and I was speaking to the head of service at Newmarket Nissan this morning about advancing my timing but he said that it does the ECU does this automatically according to the fuel's octane amount BUT I <u>should not run the SMX on anything lower than 95 octane rated fuel</u> or i might damage the Knock Sensor and retard my engine timing to the degree that I lose up 15 wheel bhp. So maybe <b>155bhp @ wheels</b> all things considered for a stock Maxima automatic with a cat-back and POD may be more accurate.

But who cares - RAX is fast enough for me at the moment. We'll just how fast on January 2nd. :D

BTW - he also said that it wouldn't be worth my while to convert to a manual and that I should just sell this and buy a manual. Where is Nedxxx? :?

I'll have to go straight to Prestige next year when I have more money.

The Maxima ECU does auto advance to its highest setting provided it doesn't detect any knock.. if it does it lowers the timing. It won't damage your knock sensor running lower octane gas it could damage your engine which the knock sensor detects. But the NZ Maxima manual says you run 91 Octane.. the US Maxima says run 91 Octane to but they use RON and we use MON ratings there 91 Octane is our 96. Basically 91 should be okay. A dead knock sensor does mean your car will be running under powered but only until you replace the knock sensor.

I have a code scanner I will bring with me if I make it to the meet otherwise get Nissan to scan your ECU for codes - provided its free

I would agree that selling yours and buying a manual is the better option.. its just I couldn't justify spending $13k on another maxima and we have no idea of its mechanical condition.

That'd be awesome Killer if you can make it down. :D

I waited for <b>nearly a year</b> for a manual SMX, gave up and bought the best automatic version I could find ($11.5k) and then a damn manual turned up (not Nedxxx's one though) two weeks later on Trademe down in Hastings...ARRRRGGHHHHHH!

Would a standard Maxima give the same results as the SMX tho? Doesn't it have some performance mods?

Yeah Matt, they added better suspension, pod filter, body kit, FSTB & I think a chip too, better ask Phat for that answer.

Engine wise theyre the same. Bigger exhaust and intake though. They use the standard USIM intake. Probably not as much as a 3 Litre Cefiro even funnily enough. SMX's are built as a sports model. It's just mostly handling mods.

Does anyone know a cheap place to get a dyno in christchurch?
