 Final Drives
Question for everyone? Has anybody ever had a final drive gear from an A32 auto and manual side by side on the table. Diagrams etc donot show in great detail what they are actually like and part numbers are always different as the auto and manuals have different ratios. Does anyone know if they can be interchanged between gearboxes? A 3.6 ratio from an auto in a manual that was 3.8 will make a difference eh!! They do look very similar from any photos i have managed to find?? Cheers Vee

 Re: Final Drives
replacing a 3.8:1 final drive with a 3.6:1 will reduce acceleration, and will put the speedo out. Wouldn't be surprised if they are interchangable, but couldn't say for sure as I haven't seen one.

 Re: Final Drives
Something to investigate i guess. VQ30DE motor has plenty of torque so i think it would handle it ok. Bring the revs down at cruise and better economy maybe. My old J30 auto is only doing around 2250 rpm at 100km/h as that lock up torque converter makes a difference. Vee

 Re: Final Drives
Think the MEVI will help the acceleration problem!! Just have to keep its revs up when you want the power?? What about getting the MEVI to cut in at lower revs?? Vee

 Re: Final Drives
The MEVI is only designed to open between 5,300 and 5,600 rpm. Before or after this is counter productive.

 Re: Final Drives
Thanks Jordan for that. No point on trying to re-configure then. If it opens at 5300 does it stays open thru to redline?? Not a big rev range really when you think about it. Its just the very top end. Vee

 Re: Final Drives
Well found a pic online of someone stripping their auto and shows the final drive sitting in place and looks like 74 teeth on the gear.Pic attached!! Can anyone compare the appearance to the manual final drive. I know to be exact we need measurements but would like to know if they look similar to start with before i track down sizes of them etc.Cheers Vee

 Re: Final Drives
hah, nah - It was during my journey of locating that bloody axel. Pulled the casing off to see if I could find any part numbers etc that might help.
